A Heart Of Worship

I think we get it wrong sometimes.

We love God.

… but we get it wrong.

We sit down to read His word and our mind wanders.

We stop to pray, but we aren’t focused.

We go to church and sing and pray with our movements resembling that of a robot.

We get it wrong.

We need worship.

We were created to worship.

The future of the believer is an eternity of worship.

But we get it wrong.

Jesus said, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: “ ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.” Mark 7:6-7

How many times are we just going through the motions of prayer, Bible study, singing and hearing the preaching of God’s Word?

Worship comes from our heart.

It can’t be faked.

John 4:23 says, “True worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way.”

It’s easy to sing a song and not worship.

It’s easy to hear a sermon and not worship.

It’s easy to go throughout your day and not worship.

That’s why God desires us to worship.

He wants us to be devoted to Him.

Worship isn’t always easy.

I love God, but I still have to rely on Him to help me worship in spirit and in truth.

I can’t worship in my own power.

I will fail.

I will be distracted.

I will choose to do other things.

But if I’m praying for God to help me worship, my worship will honor Him.

It’s ok to ask God to give you a heart of worship.

He doesn’t desire you going through the motions at church or on your own in Bible study or prayer.

Ask Him to help you mean the words you’re singing.

Ask Him to help you focus on the message and speak directly to you.

Ask Him for strength to worship like He created you to do.

I can just imagine how many lives would be changed, how many decisions to follow Christ would be made if we, as Christians would focus on true worship every day.

Worship fans the flames of the good news of Jesus.

“This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:6,7
