Apart From Me…

You know those seasons where you feel like you’re failing?

You don’t fee like you’re a good enough parent.

Or spouse.

Or daughter or son.

Or maybe you don’t feel like you’re a good enough employee.

I was thinking about that today.

And it’s a hard feeling.

You want to do better.

You want to be better.

But it seems like you just can’t get to where you want to be.

God gently asked me, “When’s the last time you prayed for these things? You say you want to be better, but how many times have you prayed for my help?”

We tend to sulk or feel defeated.

But if we really wanted to be a better spouse, or parent, or friend, etc. wouldn’t it be worth praying about?

Then God reminded me of Jesus’ words…

”Apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

And I realized, even if we’re giving our best effort at these relationships, if God isn’t in them, and we are relying on our own strength, we will ultimately fail.

Because apart from Him we can do nothing.

Thankfully, that isn’t all Jesus said.

In the verse right before this Jesus says, “You cannot be fruitful UNLESS you remain in me.”

This verse is followed by a promise…”Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit.”

Do you feel like you’re struggling with some of the relationships in your life?

Do you want better?

How much have you prayed about it?

How much time have you spent asking God to help you?

Spend time with Jesus.

Humble yourselves and recognize where your true strength is found.

If you remain in Him, you will produce much fruit.
