This morning, Cam and I sat down to watch the Cars 2 movie that the Easter Bunny had left him on Sunday. As I sat there and snuggled with my boy, I enjoyed touching his soft skin and smelling the baby lotion that his daddy had rubbed on him the night before. He is a good snuggler, and definitely a momma’s boy!
While watching the movie, the cars were telling Mater (my favorite character) that they could fix his dents. To which Mater replied, “my dents are too valuable!” He didn’t want his dents fixed. Each one of the dents meant something to him. Each one of them held a memory. Each dent had a story to tell.
That made me think that we should take on this same attitude when it comes to the “dents” in our lives.
Things happen in our lives that stay with us. Maybe we want to forget certain painful memories. But these scars are a part of who we are. They help shape us. Every happy memory as well as every painful memory can have value in making us the person we were meant to be.
Don’t think that you are too dented to be used by God. Don’t think that you can’t overcome the scars that you carry. Pray for God to use every part of your life – the good, the bad, all of it to make you who He wants you to be.
“We know that God works all things together for good for the ones who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
I love the words in the song by I Am They called “Scars.”
“Darkest water and deepest pain
I wouldn’t trade it for anything
‘Cause my brokenness brought me to You
And these wounds are a story You’ll use
So I’m thankful for the scars
‘Cause without them I wouldn’t know Your heart
And I know they’ll always tell of who You are
So forever I am thankful for the scars”
