Church, The Sweeter It Grows

Sundays are hard.

I’ve always said it. And it’s true.

But like the song says, “The longer I serve Him, the sweeter He grows,” I believe the same can be said about church.

The longer I serve Him, the sweeter going to church grows.

I’m not as worried about how I look.

I’m not as worried about what the kids will wear.

I’m not (quite) as nervous about playing the piano.

I’m not worried if the pastor preaches past 12:00.

Instead, I look forward to Sundays.

To see my friends who love me, who pray for me, and who would help me with anything I need.

To see the babies and sweet kids each week.

To play the piano in worship.

To sing songs of praise.

To be encouraged, challenged, and convicted.

To examine my heart, and see what God wants me to do differently.

To learn more about God.

To come together and pray.

To lift up those who are hurting.

We know the church, isn’t a building. It’s the people.

But God wants His church, His people to come together. Hebrews 10:25

Christ himself gave us pastors and teachers, as it says in Ephesians 4:11-12, “So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.”

I need my faith strengthened. I need to seek Him more. I need encouragement. I need to help others. I need to praise Him more.

I don’t want to become insensitive to what is going on around me.

I don’t want to forget how Jesus died on the cross to save my life.

I want to grow each day so that I can grow to become part of the mature body of Christ. Ephesians 4:15

There’s no perfect church, because they are all made up of imperfect people, but there’s also no better place to be when God’s Word is being preached, His name is being lifted up, and His people are serving Him and loving others.

Friends, I hope you attend church. And with every passing day, I hope you will say, “The longer I serve Him, the sweeter He grows.”

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”‭‭ Hebrews‬ ‭10:24-25‬ ‭
