Have you ever had a moment where you asked God, “Why can’t I get over this?”
Maybe we aren’t meant to “get over” some things…
Do you have something specific that happened in your life, that no matter how much you want to get over it, no matter how much you’ve prayed to get over it, this event, this circumstance, this whatever it is…just won’t seem to go away?
The other day, I was driving and thinking about this very thing. I asked God why I couldn’t seem to overcome this specific trial in my life.
And He opened my eyes to a completely new way of looking at the situation.
I felt Him saying, “What if you aren’t supposed to get over this? What if, instead, you rely on Me each day to get THROUGH it?”
Then, God brought to my mind 2 Corinthians 12: 7-10: Paul says, “Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
This is Paul! Paul prayed repeatedly for God to take this burden from Him, but He didn’t. So, why do we think God should take all of our burdens from us?
If God answered all of our prayers to completely get over situations and trials we’ve faced, we might thank Him, but we would soon move on with our lives, giving little thought to these “fixed” problems.
Instead, God wants us to grow in faith. He wants His power to be made perfect. He wants to be glorified. He wants us to humble ourselves so that we can lift Him up. He wants us to rely on Him because He is The Way, The Truth, and The Life.
I was beginning to think I didn’t have enough faith – and that was the reason God wasn’t answering my prayer.
But it’s not that at all.
God loves me so much, that sometimes He allows hard things to stick around; Not because He wants me to suffer, but because He wants me to draw closer to Him. He wants me to seek Him when I’m struggling; seek Him when the hurt comes; seek Him when I don’t think I can do something; seek Him when those old thoughts come back.
Because He WILL sustain me.
Sometimes in this life, God won’t take certain trials completely away. But He will help you get through them each day if you ask Him.
And when you seek Him in your weaknesses, His power – that very power that rose Jesus from the grave will be upon you!
Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. 1 Chronicles 16:11
Amen. ..we all have our thorns and that Paul said in the flesh puts things into perspective. God wants us to walk more in the Spirit and less in the flesh. Christ wants us to be One with Him as He is with the Father. Praise God for HIS mercies that are new every morning.
I’ve been struggling with somethings for a while and I believe this was meant for me!!
I’m so glad this helped you. I think we all struggle with this. But God wants us to come to Him for strength.
I needed to be reminded that God is Always there no matter what or who has hurt me.
