Today, as I was driving home, an ugly thought came into my mind. It’s not something new, in fact this same subject is all too often in my thoughts.
It’s one area of my life that I KNOW I’m not honoring God.
I might help others.
I might pray and seek God continually.
I might speak kindness and love to someone who needs it.
I might obey most of His commandments.
But yet…I know this one subject is not pleasing to God.
Yes, He wants us to help others.
Yes, He wants us to pray and read His word.
Yes, He wants us to show love to others.
Yes, He wants us to obey His commandments.
But we can’t cover over our sins in one area, by doing good in other areas.
God sees sin as sin. “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.” James 2:10
Don’t fool yourselves. Don’t think that you’re doing so well in following Christ, that He doesn’t care about the sin that you can’t seem to move past.
Don’t fool yourselves. You may look good to the world, but God knows your heart. “You, God, know my folly; my guilt is not hidden from you.” Psalm 69:5
And even if you look good to the world, those little eyes, the ones who live with you, they see it. They recognize when our actions don’t line up with what we teach. “Always set a good example for others. Be sincere and serious when you teach.” Titus 2:7
So many times, I try to push this subject to the back of my mind, only for it to return again and again.
Does it make me a bad person because I have this sin in my life? No, it makes me human. It makes me like everyone else. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
It is important for us to examine our ways.
“Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.” Lamentations 3:40
We can’t stop at recognizing the sin. We must address it.
“Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.” Proverbs 28:13
It’s not that I haven’t prayed for God to help me in this area before, because believe me, I have. But I’m not sure that I ever truly surrendered.
I believe the key is yielding to God. Finally realizing that we can’t get past it/through it/over it on our own.
It’s saying, “Here God. I can’t do it. But you can.” And believing it. If you don’t believe it, pray for God to help you overcome your unbelief. God honors this type of prayer. This is displayed in Mark 9:24 when a man says to Jesus, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
Some things seem almost impossible if we are relying only on human strength or will.
Thank God we don’t have to overcome these things by our own strength.
God tells us, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
What a wonderful promise! God’s power is made perfect in weakness! The verse goes on to say, “Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
Friends we can have joy despite our weaknesses. We can delight in our weaknesses. Why? Because when we acknowledge them and give them to God, His power is upon us!
The world wants to cover up weaknesses, hardships, and anything that isn’t pleasing.
But God says, “boast about your weakness, and you will receive My power!” 2 Corinthians 12:10
If you’re like me, and tired of fighting, surrender.
Let’s sit back and watch God’s power on display.
I appreciated reading and relating to this truth. God bless you and thankyou.
Thank you for taking the time to read this! I’m glad it resonated with you. Praying for you and your family always! <3
