I’m caught in-between…
Wanting time to slow down…
I look back and see
how fast the years go by.
How babies quickly turn into big kids.
How though we still feel young,
the gray hair and the aches and pains
give us away.
I see children
I once took care of in the nursery
with families of their own.
Parents getting older.
Children getting older.
Life marching on.
Faster and faster.
And I just want it to
slow down.
So that we can savor these moments…
Of everyone together.
Christmases.
Thanksgivings.
So that we can savor that little voice.
Tucking in.
One more story.
Playing dress up.
Time slow down.
But the Bible reminds us that people are like grass that withers and fades. Isaiah 40:7
We are like a breath, and our days like a passing shadow. Psalm 144:4
We are like a mist that appears for a little while then vanishes. James 4:14
As much as I look back
and want time to slow down,
I’m looking forward too.
To the day when all our troubles are over.
To the day when every tear is wiped away.
To the day where no more children are hurting.
No more injustice.
No more hospital beds.
I’m looking forward…
To see the loved ones waiting on us;
the ones our hearts ache for every day.
To see our Savior who created us in His image.
To be home.
Home at last.
Where we were always meant to be.
