Let Your Light Shine

Blake walked by my piano and said, “It’s amazing how shiny that one pedal is!”

I had never even noticed the difference in the pedals on my piano until he said that. And it was amazing how shiny the pedal was that I use every time I play the piano.

The other two were brown and tarnished.

It made me think…

We can be like these piano pedals.

We can be around people like us;

who have gifts just like we’ve been given;

who God loves just as much as he loves us;

and some of us look like the shiny pedal and some of us look like the other two pedals.

Because it’s not enough that we have gifts and talents. It’s not enough that we are saved. It’s not enough that we have God’s power inside of us… If we don’t use it.

We are called to let our light shine in order for God to be glorified.

You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they set it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16

That pedal doesn’t shine because one day, I sat down and shined it.

It shines because it gets consistently shined every day when I play.

It might just be for five minutes some days, but it is consistently used.

If we want to keep from looking like the dark, tarnished pedals, we need to be consistent.

Pray consistently, shine brighter.

Read God’s Word consistently, shine brighter.

Use your gifts and talents consistently, shine brighter.

Give consistently, shine brighter.

Serve people consistently, shine brighter.

Love people well consistently, shine brighter.

And when our light shines bright for everyone to see, it’s not about putting the spotlight on us.

It’s about illuminating God, pointing people to the Savior of the world, so he receives the glory.

Go shine bright today!

Those who are wise will shine as bright as the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever. Daniel 12:3
