We can choose to constantly say yes to our desires.
Say yes to all the expensive things.
Say yes to all the trips.
Say yes to all the big parties.
Say yes to the clothes, shoes, coffees, etc.
Say yes to just doing what WE want.
And we will still not find contentment.
Why is that?
It’s because we were created in the image of God.
It’s because we were created to live our lives trying to be more and more like Jesus.
Jesus even said He, “did not come to be served but to serve, and give His life as a ransom for many.”
The Bible says Jesus stayed outside in lonely places.
Jesus was despised and rejected.
Jesus was a man of sorrows and acquainted with the deepest grief.
If you’re searching for joy and contentment, it’s not in the things of this world.
It can even be found in the midst of sickness, death, and trials, because joy isn’t dependent on our circumstances.
Joy is dependent on our relationship with Jesus.
When this world with all its STUFF doesn’t fill you up, it’s because you weren’t created to be filled with it. You were meant to be filled with Jesus.
We were created to be like Jesus.
And at the very heart of Jesus is LOVE.
Putting others before ourselves.
Serving others.
Speaking life into others.
Loving God and loving people.
It seems like saying yes to more things would make us happy, but it actually goes against the very teachings of Christ.
Jesus said we must deny ourselves.
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” Matthew 16:24
The best way to be content is to model the life of Christ.
