I notice my oldest daughter beginning to stress, question, and worry about what her future will look like.
What courses to take?
What career path to choose?
What college to attend?
She doesn’t know yet…
She’s only fifteen. But many of her friends already seem to have a plan, and she feels like she should too.
Of course she thinks she knows everything, as all teenagers do…
But if there was one thing I could make her understand sooner rather than later, it would be the importance of praying for her future.
Praying for God to give her Godly wisdom in decision making.
Praying for God to open doors where they need to be opened, and close them where they need to be closed.
Praying for clarity.
Praying for God to guide her steps.
Even praying for her future spouse.
God doesn’t want us worried and stressed.
My favorite verses are Philippians 4:6,7 “Don’t be anxious about ANYTHING, but in everything by PRAYER and petition with thanksgiving, present your request to God, and the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
This is a promise friends!
If we pray about what we are worried about, thank God, and give it to Him, He promises us peace that passes understanding.
God tells us that there is power in prayer.
“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” James 5:16
When we pray for our future, asking God to guide and direct our steps, according to His perfect plan, we can be assured that He will answer.
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” 1 John 5:14-15
Lord, help my daughter to trust in You. Help us all to trust in You, and believe Your promises.
We don’t have to be worried about the future if we keep our eyes on You.
You tell us in Jeremiah, Chapter 29 that if we will call on You and come and pray to You, You will listen. You tell us that we will seek You and find You when we seek You with all our heart.
Help me remind her of this. Help her listen. Help her seek You and pray. Help us all.
Help us to remember that You have a plan. And it is good.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
