The Only Thing

The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. Galatians 5:6

I’ve been thinking about this verse a lot lately. What does it mean?  I believe it to mean that the only thing that counts is believing and trusting who Jesus is, and then showing Him to others through love, compassion, and kindness.

This passage of scripture shows us the importance of love.

If you are a follower of Christ, His love must be evident in your life. Not just love for Him, but love for others.

My Pastor once said, “the world doesn’t hate Jesus, as much as it hates our representation of Him.”

People hate seeing those who profess to be Christians, not showing love to others.

We go to church. We volunteer at different events. We go on mission trips. We do “works.” But do we really express love?

We must start focusing on love. We can do many good things, but if we don’t have love, we can’t glorify God.

Maybe you help out for Wednesday night bible studies. Maybe you help the youth. Maybe you don’t miss a church service. But do you love?

Do you gossip about certain people? Do you complain about the way things are done? Do you pick and choose who you associate with, and who you avoid?

Love comes easy when speaking of our kids or family. But love can seem almost impossible when we’re dealing with someone who has hurt us, or someone we don’t know.

We can’t just love when it’s easy. We must work at love. We must go out of our way each day to show love, so that in that, God can be glorified.

Pray each day for God to help you love those who are hard to love; those who others avoid; those who make you uncomfortable.

The same awesome power that rose Jesus from the grave is inside of you and me. God is able to do all that we ask of Him.

It is His will for us to love, and when we ask Him to help us, He will.

  1. I am interested in knowing what church you belong to and whether your church believes in baptism as being necessary to be saved, i.e. necessary for salvation. Thank you for your thoughts and have a great day.

    1. Hi! Thank you for reaching out! I am a member of Bethel Baptist Church. I do not believe baptism is necessary to be saved. Baptism doesn’t bring salvation. Baptism is a sign of obedience after you have been saved. It shows others that you are committed to following Jesus. Salvation is found in Christ alone. Believing who He says He is. Confessing your sins, and your need for a Savior. Asking Jesus to forgive you, come into your heart, and save you. “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13 Have a great day! 🙂
