They have planted the wind and will harvest the whirlwind. Hosea 8:7
These words had never caught my attention like they did today.
Hosea was talking about Israel. Instead of serving and following God, they were making idols and spending their time worshipping other things.
It was a warning of what was to come for choosing everything else over God.
The God who loves them.
The God who created them.
The God who wants what’s best for them.
How could they make idols and worship other things instead of God?
How can we do the same?
Our phones are in our hand.
We mindlessly scroll.
Our lives are filled with distractions.
We need to remember the warning of Hosea.
If we plant the wind, we will harvest the windstorm.
God tells us to keep our minds on Him.
To fix our thoughts on whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Philippians 4:8
And even in God’s judgement, He is full of love. He wants what’s best for us.
He wants us to return to Him because He knows there’s nothing better for us than Him.
The one who sows to please his flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; but the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Galatians 6:8
So now, come back to your God. Act with love and justice, and always depend on him. Hosea 12:6
Let those who are wise understand these things. Let those with discernment listen carefully. The paths of the Lord are true and right, and righteous people live by walking in them. But in those paths sinners stumble and fall. Hosea 14:9
Dear Lord, help us harvest goodness and love-keep us from the whirlwind. Amen
