Life’s not fair.
We know this.
Some feel it more than others.
Whether it’s people mistreating us, sickness, death, or tragedy after tragedy, I believe we can agree that life’s not fair.
And because we’re human, when life’s unfair, we get angry; angry at people, angry at circumstances, and even angry at God.
But what about Jesus?
No one knows more than Jesus that life’s not fair.
If there should ever be anyone to complain that life’s not fair, it’s Him.
Sinless
Innocent
Healer
Helper
Friend
Teacher
Kind
Humble
And what did He get for being these things?
Treated worse than a criminal
Mocked
Spat on
Beaten
Killed
Experienced the wrath of God that was due to us for our sins
Surely if anyone could say life’s not fair, it’s Jesus.
He’s the ultimate example of this. Thus, His actions and instructions for us should be our ultimate example.
John 13:15 says, “I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.”
Luke 23:34 says, “Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.’”
Matthew 16:24 says, “Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.’”
Micah 6:8 says, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
Jesus forgave.
Jesus obeyed.
Jesus denied Himself.
Jesus acted justly.
Jesus loved mercy.
Jesus walked humbly with God.
We must do the same-with God’s help.
He knew how hard this would be for us so He gave us these promises to hold on to.
The Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished… Nahum 1:3
Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. Romans 12:19
But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. 2 Peter 3:13
