True Self Care
Self care is a popular topic.
So many people want to tell you what to do for yourself to take care of you.
But true self care is found in God’s Word. And it’s not facials, or shopping, or going on a trip, or any of the many other things you hear about.
Proverbs 19:8 says, “To acquire wisdom is to love yourself; people who cherish understanding will prosper.”
The Bible says if you want to love yourself, if you want to take care of yourself, GET WISDOM.
Sounds strange doesn’t it?
It does until we look closer at wisdom.
What is true wisdom?
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Proverbs 9:10
Wisdom is the fear of the Lord.
And wisdom is Christ, himself.
But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. 1 Corinthians 1:24
Getting wisdom means getting Christ.
Being wise means following Christ.
Spending time with Christ.
Leaning on Christ.
And if we do this, we love ourselves. Another version says, “He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul.”
Having the fear of the Lord, having a relationship with Christ leads to life and gives us security and protection from harm.
The fear of the Lord leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble. Proverbs 19:23
