As I sat at Cam’s practice this evening I thought about what really makes a coach a great coach.
Being a coach is an opportunity to point people to Christ.
It is a ministry opportunity.
The very definition of “coach” is one who instructs or trains.
And Jesus is the ultimate instructor.
He gives coaches the best playbook.
The Bible.
Some of the topics include:
Teamwork-Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Giving it your best-Colossians 3:23
Competing-1 Corinthians 9:24
Discipline-1 Corinthians 9:25
Following rules-2 Timothy 2:5
Motivation-Ephesians 4:29
Humility-Proverbs 16:18
Endurance-Philippians 3:12. Hebrews 12:1
Finishing well-2 Timothy 4:7,8
Winning-Philippians 3:14
Jesus served and loved others well.
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. Mark 10:45
So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. John 13:34
As a coach, loving them is the most important part.
Once they know they’re loved, you can teach them the other things.
Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it. Proverbs 22:6
