I’ve been trying hard to wake up early, pray, and read the Bible.
And I really, really want to do it.
But when my alarm goes off, especially on my days off, it is so hard to get up!
So I’ve started praying from the moment the alarm goes off for God to help me get up.
Praying for strength.
Praying for Him to help me.
Why is it easier to get up early if you’re leaving on vacation? Or going shopping? Or if you have something special planned?
I think it’s because the devil doesn’t care as much about you doing those things.
But when you’re trying to do something to strengthen your relationship with God, the devil is going to do everything in his power to stop it.
It’s not enough that I just want to do good things.
I can’t just decide that I’m going to do them and expect to be able to.
The Bible says, “The Spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:41
And not only is the flesh weak, but when the devil sees you as a threat because you are wanting to follow God, he’s going to make it even harder for you to do what is right.
The Bible even tells us, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:12
The truth is that we can’t do anything without God.
At least not for very long.
We must humble ourselves, recognizing we need God for everything.
I think a lot of times we try to do what is right but forget to ask God to help us. Our plans fail, and we are discouraged.
Proverbs 16:18 says, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”
We must humble ourselves.
Admit that we need God for everything.
We want to love our neighbor, but what about when they don’t love us back?
We want to forgive, but what about when the hurt cuts deep?
We want to help others, but what about when we’re so exhausted we feel like we’re the ones needing help?
We want to let go of a specific area of our life where sin has a grip on us, but we slip back into it again and again.
Let’s humbly ask God to be with us in every aspect of our lives.
The big, little, and everything in between.
Because everything is possible with God. Mark 10:27
If God is for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31
