Dear Kids, Sorry I’m Not The “Fun” Mom

I’m sorry I’m not the “fun” mom.

I’m sorry that I don’t let you go to just anyone’s house.

I’m sorry that I don’t let you go places unchaperoned on a regular basis.

I’m sorry I don’t let you wear whatever you want.

I’m sorry you have to put your phone up at a certain time each day.

I’m sorry that I occasionally check on who you’re talking to and what you’re saying.

I’m sorry that you don’t always get to go places and get things that cost a lot of money.

I’m sorry you go to church every Sunday, even when you don’t want to.

I’m sorry I often tell you how important it is to pray and read God’s word.

I hope one day you realize that every rule and limit we set is because we love you and want the absolute best for you.

I hope you realize one day that some kids would love for their parents to care about them enough to know where they were going and what they were doing.

I hope one day you realize that some kids are given an abundance of gifts to make up for lack of time spent with them.

I hope one day you realize that some kids would give anything to have a family like yours.

Not perfect. But full of love.

So, right now, I’m sorry you don’t see me as the “fun” mom.  But hopefully one day you will look back and realize that you had a mom who loved you so much she would sometimes sacrifice being “fun” so you would know what was really important in this life.

My children, my goal is not to always be fun, but to be present, to love you, to seek your best interests, and to set a foundation to help you be who God created you to be.
