Sometimes you feel like you are at a standstill in your life; nothing really going on; nothing really changing.
Maybe you have lost someone you loved, and the hurt doesn’t seem to be getting any better. Maybe you’re single, and were hoping your status would’ve changed by now. Maybe you’ve been searching for a job, and nothing is working out. Maybe you’re a stay-at-home mom, and despite your best efforts, you always feel like you can’t catch up. Maybe you’ve been praying for something or someone for a long time, but it seems like God isn’t answering. There are so many different problems, crises, and issues that we may be facing.
It’s easy to want to try to “fix” our problems by working more, worrying, overthinking, or using things to dull the pain. We want a quick fix. But God wants us to be patient. You are called to be patient. “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.” Psalms 37:7 Also, in Romans 12:12, we are told to “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
When we realize that by being patient, we are actually obeying God’s command, we can find peace. Patience demonstrates our humility and faith that God is able, but we are not. We think we know what’s good, but through patience, God reveals what is best.
If you are fighting or struggling with God about a certain situation, stop and rest. Rest in His promises. Rest in His truths. “Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.” Proverbs 16:32 “The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” Lamentations 3:25-26
If you feel like your plans aren’t working out the way you wanted them to, maybe it’s time to stop and rest. If you are called to do something, God will make it happen. If you seek Him in your pain and suffering, He will comfort you. He will work everything out when we let Him have control of our lives.
“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
