Time Is Fleeting, Find Joy In Today

I passed the fields where my girls used to play soccer, and I remembered how many times we had been there for games and practices. Today, buildings are being built on these fields. It made me a little sad to think about how there would be no more soccer games there.

I dropped two of the girls off at their school before taking my oldest to high school. I began to think about how quickly the years passed by, and how the drop off this year wasn’t the same, since they were at different schools. It made me a little sad knowing that after next year, I will have two in high school.

As I sat at church, watching my two littles practice for their children’s choir program, I thought about how many times I had sat and watched my older daughters get ready for their programs. It made me a little sad thinking about how they had outgrown being in the children’s choir.

Where did the time go?

It’s a question that we ask so often. We don’t realize how quickly the every day things happening in our lives, will before we know it, be only a memory.

We are all tired, and we have a good reason for our exhausted state. Practices, extracurricular activities, church activities, school work, house work, and just every day life can be hard and tiring.  It’s tempting to have a bad attitude and complain about how tired we are, and how much we have to do. But if that is our mindset, we are going to look back and see that all we have left are memories.

Because….

One day, will be the last day, you wake up at 3 in the morning, and rock them back to sleep.

One day, will be the last day, you feed them a bottle.

One day, will be the last day, you help them brush their teeth.

One day, will be the last day, you tuck them into bed.

One day, will be the last day, you carry them to bed.

One day, will be the last day, they sit on your lap while you read a book.

One day, will be the last day, you take them to practice.

One day, will be the last day, you get to watch them play a sport.

One day, will be the last day, you help them with homework.

One day, will be the last day, you drop them off at school.

So, I’m trying to be thankful for every.single.day. Even days when I’m tired. Even days when I’m frustrated.  Even days when nothing is going right.

I want to remember today.

I want to be thankful for today. I want to be thankful for each person in my life. I want to be thankful for every relationship.

Above everything else, I want to show them love.

Before today is just a precious memory.
