Throughout our lives we will have seasons of waiting.
What we do during these seasons affect our relationship with God.
Maybe you’re thinking, “Wait a minute…You said this was a season of waiting…so aren’t we just supposed to wait?”
I believe that answer is “NO!”
The truth is waiting on God is not a time to do nothing, but a time to draw closer to Him and others.
When we have to wait, we practice patience.
James 1:4 says, “But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”
Psalms 27:14 tells us to wait on the Lord: “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.”
Do you see the promises we are given when we have patience and wait?
When we are patient, we will be complete in Christ, lacking nothing.
When we wait, God will strengthen our hearts.
I think we often feel like we aren’t being productive in seasons of waiting.
We feel like we are supposed to be doing more, achieving more, and seeing more results.
But remember, patience and waiting on the Lord brings maturity in Christ, and strength for our hearts.
So how do we wait?
Here are things we need to do while we wait:
Pray
Pray for God to strengthen you. Pray for Him to help you wait well. Pray for guidance and clear direction. Pray for Him to reveal to you those around you who need you.
Encourage
Encourage others. In a season of waiting, we have more time to focus on others. Take the time to send a card, send a text, make a phone call, or just speak a kind word to a stranger. Make it a common practice to be an encouragement to every person God places in your path.
Praise
Give thanks to God for all He has done for you. Praise Him for every answered prayer. Thank Him for every blessing He has given you. Praise Him, praise Him!
Waiting on God doesn’t mean a time of doing nothing.
It’s an important time; a time to demonstrate obedience and patience; a time to pray, a time to lift up others, and a time to praise God.
For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. Hebrews 10:36
