What if we quit saying we’re good?
How many times a day do we get asked or ask someone, “how are you?” or “how’s it going?”
And the majority of our answers are “good.”
What if we started being honest with each other?
What if, instead of saying we’re good, we let others in?
Instead of good,
My marriage is over.
Instead of good,
I’m worried and anxious about so many things.
Instead of good,
My parents are sick.
Instead of good,
My kids are making bad choices.
Instead of good,
I’m struggling financially.
What would happen if we were honest?
Isn’t that the point of asking how someone’s doing?
To find out how they’re doing…
We think it’s better to keep it to ourselves.
Not to bother anyone with our problems.
To pretend everything is good.
But we’re missing out on being blessed and being a blessing when we hide our struggles.
The Bible says, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”Galatians 6:2
The Bible tells us that the whole law can be fulfilled by keeping one command: to love your neighbor as yourself.
Galatians 6:10 says, “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”
When we pretend everything is fine, we take away that opportunity for people to do good to us. To pray for us. To be there with us.
“Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.” Proverbs 12:25
“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” Proverbs 11:25
We also take away the blessing of powerful prayers prayed on our behalf.
James 5:16 says, “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
Friend, maybe God has placed you on someone’s heart today.
If they ask how you’re doing.
Tell them.
Let’s stop just being good today.
