Serve

The reason I started playing piano at my church is because there was a need.

I didn’t volunteer.

I was asked and I begrudgingly did it.

Every time I had to play I was a nervous wreck.

I am the type to avoid any and all eyes on me. So being in the front of the church playing the piano wasn’t ideal for me.

But I did it.

When the kids were born, Blake would have to watch them while I played.

We had toddlers running around at choir practice.

Choir practice meant being there early and sometimes I just wanted that extra time at home.

We didn’t miss often because of the responsibility of being the pianist.

Sometimes it was hard juggling choir and kids.

I say all this to say:

If you have an opportunity to serve in a church, do it.

Use your talents wherever there is a need.

If you’re asked to do something and you’re scared, do it anyway.

Because I have experienced firsthand the blessings that come from serving.

One of my favorites things is worshipping with the choir at church.

One of my favorite things is worshipping playing the offertory.

One of my favorite things is the friendships made worshipping together.

One of my favorite things is every, single sweet, funny, and joyful person who makes up our choir and who would do anything for anyone.

One of my favorite things is having a music minister who points me to Christ and His awesomeness; reminding us why we worship and who we worship.

I’m still a nervous wreck every Sunday.

But I’m a nervous wreck doing something God has given me the ability to do.

And He has blessed me abundantly through serving.

If you are in church and aren’t serving, find a place to serve.

And if you don’t have a church to serve in, find one.

Maybe you like to sing, join the choir.

Maybe you’re a great cook, help prepare meals.

Maybe you like to be around children, serve on the children’s ministry.

Maybe you like to work behind the scenes, I guarantee there’s a place for you.

And when you start serving, God will bless you.

He will bless you with relationships.

Your relationship with Him will be strengthened.

And You will draw closer to Him through serving because serving is an act of worship.

Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. Hebrews 10:24-25

God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 1 Peter 4:10

  1. Thank you for reminding me of the importance and blessing. I serve as a Sunday School teacher for K-1. There are things I’d luke changed so I could fo a better job and sometimes they tempt me to quit. Your thoughts (God’s direction) are telling me otherwise.

    1. You are so welcome. Sometimes I think the devil tries to use us against each other so we will quit serving, we will quit going to church. Church is hard, but if your eyes are on Jesus, He will help you and He will bless you!

      1. I’ve been a part of a church for over 5 years now. I’m not an official member of the denomination but I have been a regular attender for over 5 years.
I am physically disabled. My physical limitations came on rather quickly. In the last few years. My mom raised me to be of service to others. I loved it. Since becoming more physically limited, I endure a lot of acute physical pain daily.
I can’t physically serve the way I used to.
I struggle to find my place today. As of late, I’m rediscovering my relationship with Jesus. I know there is a place for me. I just haven’t asked Jesus what it is He wants me to do, where He wants me to be?
My heart wants to return to the habit of being of service. The Lord knows my heart. I feel I am being taught to pray in a whole new way recently. We have a prayer list that gets emailed every Sunday evening for the week. I am one of the people who gets the weekly email to pray over the requests.
I used to always ask in my prayers, ” What can I do for you today Lord”?
All I can hear in this moment is the Lord telling me to continue opening my heart back to Him. Continue to bring anything & everything to Him first.
We should have started this message with, I’m going through a transformation and growth spurt due to continual surrendering people, places and things at his feet. Recognizing my powerlessness again. Recognizing God’s power again.
My spirit has been asleep for the last few years. Small and sad my spirit became. Jesus is whispering to me, “child. It is time to awaken.”
        😪🥲🥹🥰
I’m so glad that God introduced me to you today. I pray you & your loved ones continue to remain protected under the shadow of The Almighty. In Jesus name, amen.
